Yeah 3% per day. Which sucks. But I guess it also forces Lazy Bums like me to submit assignments on time. Well, almost on time...:)
@Kandarp
Hey, Ya I don't exactly "study" films, but Im taking a couple of courses on Films this year. Mostly very basic stuff. Like last semester we learnt about the 4 basic elements of film-making:
1. Mise-en-scene - Settings, props, costumes, make-up, etc. 2. Cinematographic Properties - Film Stock, Aspect Ratios, Frame-rates, Lenses, Types of Framing, etc. 3. Editing - Lots of related stuff 4. Sound - Dialogue, Background soundtrack, etc.
This term we are doin genre analyses mainly. We did The Classical Hollywood Film, The Hollywood Western, European Art Cinema, Counter Cinema,etc.
We're currently doing topics like Feminism. Have Post-Modernism, and a bit of Asian Cinema coming up. In fact, just came back from class!:)
What exactly are you studying there!! It looks like a rather unconventional course!! Am I glad there is someone out there who is ready to take up the lesser traveled road! (I'm talking in context with students in India where everyone is climbing the MBA wagon! :) )
You've caught the dichotomy between art and its consumption perfectly. The struggle for intellectual deconstruction of a form that begs nothing more than a sweet diversion and embrace for a scant 89 minutes in this case. How destructive critical thinking is to the arts. P.S. - Don't know if this'll help in your assignments of the future, but I've a blog called The Hollywood Art.
